Munich Regional Conference a Big Hit

A World Congress conference is an amazing event, and last summer’s 6th European Israeli Regional Conference in Munich was no exception. It provided a unique sense of kinship with other GLBT Jews from all over. The experience of connection with the world-wide GLBT community is the "high" that comes during every conference and is the feeling that makes me want to attend every conference.

I had mixed feelings about attending the Munich conference. I could not imagine a GLBT Jewish community in Munich and I could not imagine what it would be like to be an American Lesbian there.

It was an eye-opening experience to meet the members of Yachad Deutschland. This small group of dedicated people created a conference that was educational, spiritual, heartwarming and awe-inspiring.

Some highlights included an invitation from Munich’s Mayor to a dinner in our honor at City Hall, a thought-provoking workshop, led by Yachad members, to answer the question "how can you live there?", services at a "mainstream" congregation, where we more than doubled the attendance, and a trip to Dachau.
