World of GLBT Jews Convenes at UCLA
he 20th World Conference of GLBT Jews, Aug. 13-15, was planned without the much-publicized Proposition 8 overturn in mind, but the fact that it took place alongside the turning of tides in California’s gay marriage law reflected increasing acceptance of the GLBT community.

Beth Chayim Chadashim Breaks Ground on New Building!
On August 15, 2010, Beth Chayim Chadashim broke ground on its future new building, which is expected to be the first LEED Certified synagogue in Los Angeles, and only the second in the Reform Movement! Mazel Tov!

World Conference of GLBT Jews LA 2010 a big success!
During the weekend of August 13- 15, 2010, the 20th World Conference of GLBT Jews took place at the beautiful facilities of UCLA Hillel, just east of the UCLA campus. More than 175 people participated in this conference, to which some traveled from 17 states in the U.S. and Washington, D.C., three Canadian provinces, and other countries including Mexico, Britain, Israel, and South Africa. Argentina legalizes same-sex marriage
(CNN) -- Argentina became the first Latin American country on Thursday to legalize same-sex marriage.
Lawmakers in the Senate passed the bill after 14 hours of debate that began Wednesday and carried well into early Thursday morning, the state-run Telam news agency reported.
The bill had already passed the lower chamber of Congress.
It gives same-sex couples equal marriage rights, including the ability to adopt children.

This year as we celebrate the enactment of marriage equality in the District of Columbia and recognition of same-sex marriage in the State of Maryland, Capital Pride is a living demonstration of social justice in action. 2010 Mardi Gras Festival with Dayenu!
The 2-week festival begins on Sunday 21st February with Fair Day, a lovely day out in Victoria Park where GLBT community groups and businesses raise awareness and show off their products and services. Dayenu plans to have a stall as we have done for a number of years now. We always manage to find a few Jews who are interested in joining up and a few people who are interested in converting to Judaism!

Gay activism back in 1979 - the 4th international conference of the World Congress of Gay Lesbian Jews
During the summer of 1979, the 4th international conference of the World Congress of Gay Lesbian Jews was held in Israel that included invited guests from CBST in New York.
The Marina hotel and the Guest House at Ma’ale Hamisha (outside of Jerusalem) canceled the reservations for the conference goers for fear of loosing their hechsher and the conference was held in alternate locations.

Review from the Gay and Lesbian Yeshiva Day School Alumni Association (GLYDSA)
In December 1994, simply by word of mouth, over 60 Jewish LGBT showed up at the Gay Community Center in Manhattan to discuss the formation of a social and support group created by and serving Jewish LGBT from traditional backgrounds. On that historic day, the Gay and Lesbian Yeshiva Day School Alumni Association (GLYDSA) was founded. In a time before Internet and email, this was an amazing event.
