Jewish Mosaic at the White House
May 22, 2009
Dr. David Shneer, founding board member of Jewish Mosaic (World Congress of GLBT Jews member organization), was invited to the White House as part of a delegation of emergent Jewish leaders managing the next generation of Jewish communal organizations. The delegation met with representatives from the Obama Administration’s Office for Faith Based and Community Partnerships, the Office of Public Engagement, and the White House’s liaisons to the American Jewish community. The delegation of 25 Jewish leaders of emerging Jewish organizations talked about the administration’s Summer of Service program as well as new initiatives to support the social justice work of religiously inspired organizations. While the White House’s emphasis was on supporting those organizations doing direct delivery of social services to those in need, as representative of Jewish Mosaic, David advocated that the White House see the important connection between direct delivery of social service and the kind of social change work that Jewish Mosaic is involved in. The meeting was incredibly inspiring as both sides recognized the powerful potential of a group of engaged young Jewish leaders working with a young administration committed to transforming American society for the better.
